The plan was to have our luggage ready for pickup by 8:30 am and depart for the train station at 9:45 am. We had breakfast in the hotel dining room. Pretty good. Maria is obviously tired. This is her first structured tour and it has been much more active and much more structured than she expected. This is my first "land only" tour and it is hectic with little flexibility from the established schedule. My recently finished trip to China was also very structured, but we did have a week of river cruising where you could do nothing at all if you so desired.
Maria decided to wear her "punk" outfit, for which she received several favorable comments...mostly from the staff of the hotel.

We got to the train station and boarded with plenty of time to spare. Our little group of 23 (including Paul the tour guide) have a whole car to ourselves, so there was plenty of room to spread out. The train ride is expected to last 4.5 hours.
We had a simple set piece lunch on the train with a small glass of wine. This of course just got us wanting more wine, so we tried a local vintage. Not bad...have had worse.
We arrived in Interlaken and checked into the Victoria-Jungfrau (http://www.victoria-jungfrau.ch/en). This hotel was originally two independent hotels (Pension Victoria and Hotel Jungfrau) separated by a street or alley. Pension Victoria opened in 1836. In 1899, the two hotels merged and a glass dome was constructed over the alley separating them and that became the lobby for the Victoria Jungfrau Grand Hotel.
